Nafiu Bala Denies Endorsing Mark, Says ADC Leadership Was Imposed

The leadership crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a fresh twist as factional National Chairman, Nafiu Bala, denied endorsing the party’s interim leadership led by former Senate President, David Mark.

Bala confirmed that he attended the ADC unveiling ceremony held in July 2025, but insisted that his presence at the event should not be interpreted as support for the outcome of the process.

He maintained that the emergence of Mark as head of the interim leadership was imposed, alleging that key stakeholders were sidelined in the decision-making process.

According to him, the procedure that produced the current leadership structure did not reflect the democratic principles of the party and has instead deepened internal divisions.

“The fact that I attended the unveiling does not in any way translate to my endorsement of the leadership. The process was neither inclusive nor in line with the party’s constitution,” Bala said in a statement on Monday.

The ADC has been embroiled in a protracted leadership tussle, with rival factions laying claim to the party’s national structure.

The unveiling of the interim leadership in 2025 was initially seen as a move to stabilise the party and reposition it ahead of future political activities.

However, Bala’s latest remarks suggest that the crisis is far from over, raising concerns about the party’s unity and its ability to function as a cohesive political platform.

Political observers warn that unless urgent reconciliation efforts are undertaken, the lingering dispute could weaken the party’s influence in Nigeria’s political landscape.

As tensions persist, stakeholders are expected to intensify consultations in a bid to resolve the impasse and restore stability within the party.
