The Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL), the apex body of humanities scholars and scholarship in Nigeria, has hailed President Bola  Tinubu’s establishment of a National Research Fund, pledging its support to ensure its successful implementation.

In a press statement issued, NAL President, Professor Sola Akinrinade, expressed delight at the announcement of the Research Fund by the President, stating that it would help accelerate development in all spheres of the nation.

“NAL received with delight the announcement by Mr. President of the establishment of a National Research Fund. We are confident that, properly implemented, the Fund will help to accelerate development in all its ramifications in the country,” Akinrinade said.

The Academy, which recently worked with the Nigerian Academy of Science to develop a framework for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) Education with support from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), reiterated its commitment to producing skilled and globally competitive citizens.

“As an Academy, we are prepared to work with all stakeholders to produce effective and skilled citizens that are nationally relevant and globally competitive,” the statement added.

Akinrinade further stated that with the growing awareness of the need to equip the next generation with well-rounded skills for an innovative and creative future, NAL is ready to contribute to national development through STEAM education.

The Academy also commended President Tinubu’s investiture as the Grand Patron of Science by the Nigerian Academy of Science, describing it as an acknowledgment of his leadership qualities and readiness to collaborate with academia for sustainable development.
