In a tangible show of appreciation for the team’s rising form, the Nasarawa United squad has been rewarded with a cash gift of N500,000 following their hard-fought home victory against Ikorodu City.
The financial incentive was announced shortly after the final whistle at the Lafia City Stadium on Sunday, aimed at fueling the team’s momentum as they climb the league standings.
The solitary goal that decided the keenly contested Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter came with just seven minutes left on the clock. Bright Amadi emerged as the hero for the Solid Miners, slotting home the winner to the delight of the home crowd, who had endured a tense and tightly contested defensive battle between both sides.
Confirming the reward, the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Kwanta Yakubu, presented the cash to the players and coaching staff in the locker room after the match.
Yakubu explained that the gesture was more than just a celebration of the three points; it was a deliberate move to boost morale and maintain focus as the team faces a grueling schedule ahead.
“This victory was a testament to the resilience and character of our boys. The season is a marathon, not a sprint, and we need them to stay hungry,” Yakubu stated.
“This reward is to let them know that the state government and the good people of Nasarawa are behind them, and to motivate them to replicate this fighting spirit in every subsequent game.”
The win over Ikorodu City proved significant on the league table, propelling Nasarawa United up to third position. The result solidifies the positive work being done by head coach Mbwas Mangut, who has instilled a steely determination in his side.
However, the team will have little time to bask in the glory of their latest win or the financial reward. Attention now turns to a daunting away fixture on the horizon.
Mangut and his charges are set to travel to Ikenne for their next outing, where they will face the formidable defending champions, Remo Stars, in a true test of their title credentials.
