BREAKING: National Assembly Commission Staff Protest Over Unpaid Allowances, Poor Welfare

Staff of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) are currently protesting at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja over alleged poor welfare, unpaid allowances and neglect by management.

The protest, which was ongoing as of the time of filing this report, is being organised by the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), NASC chapter.

The protesters are demanding improved welfare and payment of outstanding allowances, while accusing the Commission’s Executive Chairman, Dr Saviour Enyiekere, and other commissioners of failing to prioritise the wellbeing of workers.

The workers also alleged that some staff are struggling to pay their children’s September school fees due to financial difficulties.

They accused the chairman and commissioners of frequently travelling while allegedly neglecting the welfare and interests of workers.

Some of the placards displayed by the protesters read, “Our Saviour is choking us,” “Pay our allowances.Senate President, please save National Assembly Service Commission from collapse,” and “Tinubu, your children are hungry in NASC.”

The protest comes almost a year after NASC staff staged a similar demonstration at the Commission’s headquarters in September 2025, barricading the main entrance over what they described at the time as worsening hunger, economic hardship and neglect by management.

During the 2025 protest, the workers accused the Commission of failing to pay welfare-related allowances and provide adequate support amid rising living costs.

They also carried placards reading, “Our Management Failed Us,” “Where is our Saviour?”, “Hunger is Killing Commission Staff,” “Medical for All,” and “Staff are dying of hardship.”

The workers had vowed to continue their protest until the executive chairman addressed their grievances.
