The Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Admiral Idi Abbas has described the special Air Shooting Novelty tournament organised as part of activities marking the 70th anniversary celebration of the Nigerian Navy as not only providing a platform for healthy competition, but also strengthened friendship, goodwill and comradeship among participants.

According to him, shooting remains a powerful instrument of discipline, resilience, unity and mutual respect.

Reminiscing on the journey, he said the 70 years celebration serves as a reminded of Service’s remarkable journey from modest beginnings in 1956 to a professional, dependable and forward-looking maritime force.

“The service has continued to play a vital role in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime domain, supporting and contributing to peace, stability and economic development.

This anniversary, therefore, is not only a celebration of institutional longevity, but also a tribute to sacrifice, service, professionalism and commitment to national duty,” he said.

Vice Admiral Abbas commended all participants for the discipline, confidence and sportsmanship displayed during the tournament.

He reminded participants that while scores and prizes are important features of any competition, “the greater value of today’s gathering lies in the bonds of friendship, unity and goodwill have been strengthened through this event.

I therefore congratulate every participant, not only for taking part, but also for demonstrating the true spirit of sportsmanship,” he added.

He commended the executive members of the Nigerian Shooting Sports Federation for their support and partnership towards the successful conduct of the tournament.

“Your contribution has added colour and value to the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary celebration,”.

The Chief of Administration, Naval Headquarters ,Rear Admiral Jonathan Mamman commended participants and coaches for gracing the occasion.

He urged them to always put safety first by listening to instructions.

“I must say this here, safety is our top priority today. Please follow all range commands and instructions from officials at all times. To the competitors, may your aim be steady, your focus sharp, and your performance to reflect the hours of practice you put in. Win or lose, you are part of a community that values precision, respect and integrity,”
