The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has approved waivers for former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, and former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, clearing them to contest the Delta Central and Delta North Senatorial seats respectively on the platform of the party in the 2027 general elections.

The decision comes after the formal defection of both politicians from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the NDC, marking a significant political realignment ahead of the next electoral cycle.

A statement on Wednesday by National Publicity Secretary of NDC, Osa Director Esq, said it warmly welcomes both leaders into its ranks and assured them of a “credible, inclusive, and people-oriented platform” to pursue their political ambitions while contributing to the development of Delta State and Nigeria.

The NDC leadership explained that the waiver approvals were based on their political experience, leadership credentials, and long-standing commitment to democratic governance, good governance, and public service.

According to the party, both Omo-Agege and Ochei possess the necessary competence, grassroots networks, and institutional experience to mount strong senatorial bids and deliver effective representation to their respective districts.

The party further reiterated its commitment to internal democracy, inclusion, and transparency, noting that the move reflects its broader ambition to strengthen its structures ahead of the 2027 elections and offer a viable alternative for the people of Delta State and Nigeria.
