The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has arrested six suspected drug dealers during a raid around the Bayero University Kano (BUK) Old Site, as part of efforts to rid the area of illicit drug activities.

The operation, carried out under “Operation Sharar Mafaka,” followed a formal complaint by the management of Bayero University Kano over the increasing use of parts of the campus and adjoining areas for drug trading and consumption.

Spokesperson of the command, Sadiq Maigatari, disclosed in a statement that the raid led to the dismantling of several drug joints, while items linked to the illegal activities were seized and destroyed.

He quoted the Kano State Commander of the agency, CN DY Lawal, as saying the operation reflects the NDLEA’s resolve to maintain a drug-free environment within and around educational institutions.

“This action demonstrates our commitment to ensuring a drug-free environment where students, staff and their families can live and work in safety.

“We will not relent in dislodging criminal elements and dismantling drug joints across the state,” Lawal said.

The commander added that the success of the raid highlights the importance of collaboration between the agency and institutional stakeholders, noting that the university’s timely report enabled a swift and targeted intervention.

The NDLEA warned individuals using public institutions and government facilities for drug-related activities to desist or face the full weight of the law.
