The inspector-general of police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has expressed optimism that the newly completed Taraba State Police Command Headquarters will enhance security operations, improve officers’ welfare and strengthen police-community relations across the state.

At the inauguration of the Police Headquarters in Jalingo, Disu said the completion of the project was a historic milestone for the Nigeria Police Force and Taraba State, as it was the first permanent command headquarters completed by the force since the state’s creation in 1991.

The event marked the official commissioning of the state-of-the-art headquarters, which is expected to boost operational efficiency and contribute to peace, security, and development in Taraba State.

The IGP, represented by the CP Moorkwap Dongshal Sebastine, commended the federal and state governments, the Police Trust Fund, security stakeholders, and other partners whose contributions made the project possible.

According to him, the facility reflects the police leadership’s commitment to providing a conducive working environment for officers and men of the force.

“The completion of this magnificent building is long overdue, considering that Taraba State was created in 1991.

“However, it is better late than never. This project stands as a testament to the determination of the Nigeria Police Force LEADERSHIP to leave a lasting legacy and create an environment that will enable officers to discharge their duties effectively,” he said.

The IGP, therefore, stressed that the welfare of police personnel remains a top priority, as motivated officers are better equipped to carry out their responsibilities professionally.

He said the force would continue to focus on improving working conditions through better office facilities, accommodation, healthcare, training opportunities and other welfare initiatives.

The police chief, who described the headquarters as more than just a physical structure, said the facility symbolises institutional growth and the force’s commitment to modern policing.

He, however, urged officers and personnel to ensure proper maintenance of the building and its facilities to preserve its value for future generations.

“The building, equipment, and all facilities contained herein must be properly maintained. Regular maintenance and responsible use will ensure that this structure continues to serve its purpose effectively for many years,” he said.

The IGP also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, civil society organisations, the media, and members of the public to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible intelligence on criminal activities.

He noted that effective policing requires collaboration between security agencies and communities, as reliable information remains critical in preventing crime and tackling insecurity.

According to the IGP, the new command headquarters will serve as a strategic centre for coordinating security operations, promoting professionalism, and improving service delivery across Taraba State.

The IGP further charged officers serving in the facility to uphold the highest standards of integrity, discipline, accountability, and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties.

In his remarks, Governor Agbu Kefas reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security across the state, saying that security remains the foundation for peace, economic growth, social harmony, and sustainable development.

The governor, who was represented by the commandant, Taraba Marshall, CP Abeh Cyril (rtd), said the edifice was a project of collective efforts to enhance security infrastructure and improve the operational capacity of law enforcement agencies in the state.

According to him, the completion of the modern Police Command Headquarters demonstrates the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund to building a safer and more prosperous society.

“Security remains the foundation upon which peace, economic growth, social harmony and sustainable development are built. No society can attain its full potential without a secure environment, which is why my administration continues to accord security the highest priority,” he said.

The governor commended the Inspector-General of Police and the LEADERSHIP of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund for facilitating the project, noting the facility would provide a conducive working environment for officers and enhance operational efficiency, coordination and service delivery.

He also acknowledged the sacrifices and dedication of personnel in maintaining law and order and combating crime across the state.

Governor Kefas then reiterated that the state government would continue to support security agencies with the resources needed to discharge their responsibilities effectively.

“The government of Taraba State has contributed immensely to the operations of security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and will continue to provide the necessary support required to strengthen security in the state,” he stated.

He noted that the project aligns with his administration’s vision of building strong institutions capable of addressing contemporary security challenges.

The governor urged officers and personnel to ensure its optimal use for the benefit of the state’s residents and called for renewed commitment to peace, justice, professionalism, and service.

He therefore expressed confidence that the facility would further enhance policing and security operations in Taraba State.

The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), Alhaji Mohammed Sheidu, said the commissioning of new police facilities underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening security infrastructure and improving the welfare of police personnel nationwide.

Alhaji Sheidu said the projects were aimed at providing officers with a conducive working environment to enhance operational efficiency, professionalism and service delivery.

He commended President Bola Tinubu for prioritising security under the Renewed Hope Agenda, describing security as a critical pillar for national development, economic growth, and social stability.

The NPTF boss also praised the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olstunji Rilwan Disu, for his visionary leadership and commitment to modernising and transforming the Nigeria Police Force.

According to him, the facilities symbolise a collective investment in Nigerians’ safety, peace, and prosperity.

“These projects demonstrate that when we invest in our security institutions, we are ultimately investing in the well-being of our people,” he said.
