The umbrella body of non governmental organisations in Gombe State, named ‘Association of NGOs’ (ANGO), has charged newly elected local government chairmen in Gombe State to prioritise the implementation of projects nominated by the people.

Recall that local government elections were held in the state on Saturday, April 27, 2024, while the elected chairmen were sworn in last Monday by the State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya.

Reacting to their election and swearing in, the association, which stressed the closeness of councils to people at the grassroot, advised the administrators to always carry out projects that are chosen by the people based on their needs and aspirations, “not random projects that are not the priorities of the communities”.

ANGO in a press release issued by its state chairman Idris Lawanti also tasked the council chairmen to strengthen citizens’ engagement and participation in budgeting processes and governance in order to make them more impactful to the citizens.

“We also call on the citizens to be deliberate in engaging the local councils as groups, as communities, and as active citizens to make governance work for them.
