The federal government has rallied behind the Super Eagles ahead of their crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semifinal clash against Morocco on Wednesday night, assuring the team of the nation’s full support and confidence.
In a statement issued to journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, commended the Super Eagles for their impressive performances so far in the tournament, describing their journey as inspiring and worthy of national pride.
According to the minister, the team has consistently demonstrated discipline, courage, and belief throughout the competition—qualities that have reinforced Nigeria’s status as one of Africa’s most respected football nations.
“You have been here before, and you know what it takes to win at this level,” the minister said, recalling Nigeria’s past AFCON triumphs and hard-fought victories against formidable opponents.
He noted that those successes were built on teamwork, confidence, and an unyielding fighting spirit—the same attributes the team has displayed in the current tournament.
Idris reminded the players that they carry the hopes of millions of Nigerians as they step onto the pitch, urging them to play with confidence, unity, and hunger.
“As you step onto the pitch, remember that you are not alone. You carry the hopes of millions of Nigerians who believe in you and draw strength from your performances,” he stated.
The minister charged the Super Eagles to remain focused, trust one another, and give their all from the first whistle to the final moment of the game, stressing that the team has earned its place in the semifinals and possesses the quality to go even further.
“Tonight, go out there and write another proud chapter in our football story. Play with heart. Play with pride. Play for Nigeria,” he said.
He also offered prayers for the team and the nation, saying, “God bless you, Super Eagles. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
