US-based Nigerian dancer and singer, Korra Obidi, has said that Nigerians have become their own government because the state has failed to provide basic needs.
Speaking on the One 54 podcast, the entertainer noted that Nigeria has great potential but is held back by poor leadership. She explained that citizens now provide their own social amenities, such as water and electricity, to survive.
“In Nigeria, you’re your own government. You make your own water, dig a well, and purify it for yourself and your people. You get your own electricity; you have your own solar or generator. You basically have your own ministry,” she said.
Obidi further stated that most people have stopped looking up to the government for help. Instead, they create their own kingdoms and focus on survival. She pointed out that while the technology sector is growing fast and Lagos is expanding, the government remains a major obstacle.
“Most people no longer care about the government. Everybody has their own kingdoms and is just trying to survive,” she added.
