Nigeria’s 10 Most Googled Dishes In 2023   

The Nigerian cuisine that has garnered global recognition is the beloved jollof rice, celebrated by Nigerians as a source of joy and pride, sparking enduring banter between Nigeria and Ghana over who makes the best jollof rice.

However, Nigeria’s culinary offerings have been increasingly sought after worldwide, as indicated by a recent Google list.

Google unveiled the top 10 trending recipes in Nigeria for the year 2023. This list features the Sex on the Beach Recipe, a cocktail typically crafted with vodka, peach schnapps, cranberry juice, and orange juice.

Also among the list is the Chin Chin Recipe, a popular snack—a deep-fried pastry made from a simple dough of flour, sugar, milk, and occasionally eggs, flavoured with nutmeg.

A traditional Nigerian delicacy known as the Black Soup Recipe, prominent in the South-south region among the Edo people, is made from three leaves: scent leaf, uziza leaf, and bitter leaf.

Additionally, the fish roll recipe, a type of pastry filled with a blend of fish, spices, and sometimes vegetables, is enclosed in a thin layer of dough and then deep-fried or baked, served as a snack.

The list includes the pancake recipe, a common favourite made by mixing flour, milk, eggs, and baking powder to create a batter, poured onto a hot griddle or pan and cooked until golden brown.

Another entry is the Italian recipe Spaghetti Bolognese, featuring a meat sauce made with ground meat (often beef), tomatoes, onions, garlic, and various herbs.

A popular Nigerian staple, Okro soup, is prepared from chopped or blended okra, cooked with assorted meats or fish, palm oil, and other spices and seasonings.

Also featured among the top ten is the Yamarita dish, made from boiled yam slices coated in egg, flour, ginger, garlic, and salt, then deep-fried until crispy.

Furthermore, the Sausage roll, consisting of pastries filled with seasoned sausage meat, wrapped in puff pastry, and baked until golden brown, is enjoyed as snacks or party appetisers.

Finally, Coleslaw, a refreshing side dish comprising chopped raw cabbage, carrots, onions, and other vegetables, mixed with mayonnaise.
