The Nigerian Institute of Training and Development (NITAD) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s learning and development ecosystem.

The institute said it remained focused on promoting professional excellence and capacity development across the country.

During its 30th annual general meeting in Kano, the president of the institute, Bulus James, said the organisation’s growth over the past three decades reflected its resilience and dedication to advancing learning and development as a profession in Nigeria.

“It is a testament to our collective resilience and our unwavering commitment to the learning and development ecosystem in Nigeria,” James said.

He described the institute’s journey as a vision that has grown into a platform providing professional guidance and development opportunities to thousands of practitioners across the federation.

James also hailed members for conducting what he described as a credible and transparent election that produced the institute’s 12th Council, noting that the process demonstrated NITAD’s commitment to integrity and internal democracy.

Highlighting achievements recorded in the last one year, he said the institute inducted over 375 new members and admitted 79 corporate members, while 79 fellows were honoured in 2025.

He added that the institute expanded its presence nationwide with the establishment of new branches in Kano, Bauchi and Benue/Nasarawa, while plans were underway to inaugurate branches in Borno, Katsina and the Sokoto/Zamfara/Kebbi axis.

James further revealed efforts to secure a legislative charter which had reached about 80 per cent completion.

Looking ahead, he said the 12th council would prioritise digital transformation, policy advocacy, member development, financial sustainability and alignment of NITAD programmes with global standards.

“Our focus is to ensure that NITAD certifications remain globally competitive and that we continue to serve as a leading voice on national training standards,” he said.

Speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the AGM, the registrar of NITAD, Kayode Adejumo, attributed the institute’s growing acceptance across Nigeria to increased awareness of the distinction between learning and development and human resource management.

He noted that NITAD, which was once concentrated in the South-West, had expanded to other regions, with branches now operating in Kano, Kaduna, Niger and several other states.

“People now understand that learning and development is a specialised profession. That awareness is driving membership growth and expansion across the country,” Adejumo said.
