The Lagos State Police Command has refuted media reports (not LEADERSHIP) that lives were lost in the gas explosion at Alayabiagba community in the Ajegunle area of the State on Tuesday, saying that only 22 persons were affected with varying degrees of burns.

It was earlier gathered that nine people reportedly suffered varying degrees of burns, including a pregnant woman, children, and adult males and females who were all recuperating at the Ajeromi General Hospital and Gbagada Burnt & Trauma Centre after some first aid by the Lagos State Ambulance Services.

The Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who debunked the reports of lives lost on his X handle on Wednesday, emphasised that only 22 people suffered various degrees of burns.

He remarked that the victims were responding to treatment at Gbagada General Hospital and Ajeromi General Hospital and the Police were on the ground to prevent the breakdown of law and order at the accident scene.

Meanwhile, through the efforts of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, with support from the Federal Fire Service, properties were salvaged as the massive gas explosion was curtailed and brought under control to avoid spreading to other properties.

In a release from the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, she noted the incident occurred in an area known for gas cylinder trading activities, which amplified the impact.

“Tragically, nine individuals, including a pregnant woman and several children and adults, suffered varying degrees of burn injuries. They received immediate medical attention from the Lagos State Ambulance Service and are currently undergoing further treatment at the Ajeromi General Hospital and Gbagada Burnt & Trauma Centre,” she stated.
