The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), 19 Northern States and FCT has honoured a former Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Engr Andrew Yakubu.

The award of excellence was given to Yakubu by the 19 Northern States CAN chairman, Mr Yakubu Pam at a public lecture held at the Catholic Social Centre Kaduna on Thursday.

The Public lecture with the theme: “Managing Diversity In Electioneering Process, The Role Of Religious Leaders,” was also used to recognised the impacts and contributions of prominent leaders, political actors and distinguished individuals in Nigeria.

But Andrew Yakubu who was bestowed with an excellence award of service, according to CAN, was as a result of his contribution to the association and humanity.

“Engr Andrew Yakubu has been a major contributor to Northern CAN. He bailed the association out on many occasions with financial contributions and donations, buildings and gifts of vehicles, “ the CAN Chairman, Rev Yakubu Pam said while handing over the award to Yakubu.

Speaking after receiving the award, Engr Andrew Yakubu thanked the organisers for the honour.

“We give God the glory and all the honour,” Yakubu said of the award, adding, “Yes I know, about 10 years ago there are few things I did.

“I started my career in Kaduna here in 1980 and I moved around the country and eventually became the head in Abuja before retirement.

“So, we have been contributing to National development. Some people know that in 1978 we started unionism at the Ahmadu Bello University ABU Zaria. Two years later, I came back to Kaduna and we continue doing what is right, “ Yakubu said while thanking the organisers for the honour.

Bodam, who also congratulated Engr Yakubu over the award, said: “You are winning and so are those of us with you. Sir, we really are always proud of you. Congratulations for your award, we want to congratulate you for your success,” Bodam said.
