Kun Khalifat head coach Obinna Uzoho has stated that the KK Boys’ surprising scoreless draw against Rangers International in their NPFL 2025/26 Matchday 1 clash at ‘The Cathedral’, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, was a fair result and a strong start for his newly promoted side, as reported by Completesports.com.
Uzoho spoke after his team secured a valuable point in their debut NPFL match against the Flying Antelopes.
“Our plan was to come here to the famous ‘Cathedral’ and kick off our NPFL season on a high,” said the youngest coach in the NPFL. “I think we didn’t play badly. We had a strategy for today’s game, and a draw was part of that plan. However, we’re looking forward to improving on this performance.
“It wasn’t a bad performance, nor was it a bad result. I think it was a fair outcome for us in our first game in the Nigeria Premier Football League.”
Kun Khalifat will next face defending champions Remo Stars in their first-ever NPFL home match of the 2025/26 campaign. However, 39-year-old Uzoho insists his side is ready for the challenge ahead.
“We’re prepared for the game against Remo Stars. Holding the old war horse, Rangers, in our first match has given us confidence, and I must say we’re ready for the clash against Remo Stars, especially as it is our first home game in the NPFL.”
When asked if he considered the match against Rangers an Oriental Derby, Uzoho responded without hesitation. “Yes, it is. It truly is, because I believe we’re representing the Imolites in the elite league.”
Kun Khalifat FC, also known as the ‘KK Boys’, secured their spot in the 2025/26 NPFL following an impressive display at the 2024/25 promotion play-offs held in Asaba, Delta State.
