The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) pledged a system-wide review following a technical glitch that left passengers stranded on Tuesday evening on the Itakpe-Warri Train Service (WITS).

The incident, which halted the train at Ajaokuta Station around 6:00 p.m., forced passengers to spend the night there before another locomotive arrived early Wednesday to complete the journey.

Although all passengers were safe, with security personnel ensuring their protection, some travellers expressed frustration over the delay and lack of immediate alternatives.

NRC’s Director of Operations, Mr Akin Osinowo, reaffirmed the corporation’s commitment to reliable services and stated that a technical review is underway to prevent future disruptions.

“We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to our esteemed passengers. The NRC is taking this as a learning opportunity to enhance our systems and ensure uninterrupted operations,” Osinowo said.

The NRC has also instructed its ticket concessionaire to issue a full refund to affected passengers as compensation.

This incident comes amid growing concerns about the reliability of Nigeria’s railway system. Passengers are urging the NRC to invest in preventive maintenance and improved response mechanisms for technical failures.
