The National Sports Commission (NSC) has resolved the leadership crisis within the Nigeria Judo Federation, with stakeholders unanimously endorsing Dr Musa Oshodi as President and Segun Gbayi as Technical Director.
A statement released on Tuesday by Dr Kehinde Ajayi, NSC Director of Information and Public Relations, confirmed that the peace agreement, brokered by NSC Director General Bukola Olopade, saw previously feuding parties agree to work with Dr Oshodi’s elected board. Gbayi will serve as Technical Director, and Amos Iliya as the new Chairman of the Technical Committee.
Honourable Bukola Olopade, NSC Director General, stated that this resolution is a significant boost for Nigerian Judo, emphasising that “no sport truly survives with infighting amongst its stakeholders.” He added, “Judo is one sport that Nigeria has the potential to win medals at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games and even at the Olympics, only if we have a crisis-free federation.”
Dr Musa Oshodi, President of the Nigeria Judo Federation, thanked the Director General for his “fatherly role” in restoring peace. He pledged that his board would work with all stakeholders to develop the sport in the country.
