The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 42-year-old Basiru Ahmed for being in possession of over 106 parcel of substances believed to be Indian hemp (Cannabis sativa).
Spokesperson of the Command, SC Ibrahim Abdullahi, in a statement on Wednesday, said the suspect was arrested at Salanta in Gwale local government area of the state following credible intelligence.
Abdullahi explained that the suspect was caught while selling and distributing the illegal substance within the community.
He also stated that the suspect has since been handed over to the state Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and necessary legal action.
In a related development, Abdullahi said another 22-year-old Muhammad Abbas, was apprehended at Gurungawa in Kumbotso LGA for allegedly burgling homes and carting away valuable property worth hundred of thousands of Naira.
“The suspect, who had been on the security watchlist for some time, was apprehended during a coordinated patrol aimed at curbing theft and other criminal activities in the area.
“The suspect will be charged to Court upon completion of investigation,” he stated.
The command however urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely information that will assist in ridding the community of any criminal elements.
