The Nigeria Sports Journalists in Diaspora has named former Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation, Dr. Bolaji Ojo-Oba as the Chairman of the award ceremony billed to take place in Lagos next month.
The event, earlier scheduled for February 22nd has now been moved to March 7 due to some logistics reasons as the states are getting higher than ever.
According to the chairman of the organising committee, Gboyega Okegbenro, this prestigious award will honor the ‘crème de la crème’ of grassroots sports reporting, with a whopping N2m up for grabs across four fiercely contested categories: Print Journalism, TV Broadcasting, Radio Broadcasting, and Online/Social Media.
Interestingly, the nominations for the awards will close next Friday, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown that have only the best emerging in each of the categories.
Okegbenro confirms the new date at the weekend and he expressed optimism that the maiden event would be a game changer in Nigerian sports journalism
The ceremony will take place at the Lagos Sports Writers Association Hall, at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
Okegbenro added: “At the end of the day, the true winners will emerge. The NSJID Award Committee is committed to promoting excellence in grassroots reporting, and this award is a testament to that commitment.
“The nomination process has been exciting and we are also happy that our colleagues in the diaspora are looking back to see how best to make sports reporting better in Nigeria.”
