NTF Promises New Equipment For Inaugural MOB National Taekwondo Championship

The Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) says athletes competing at the inaugural Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (MOB) National Taekwondo Championship will use new equipment that meets international standards.

NTF President Tayo Popoola disclosed this on Wednesday ahead of the two-day competition scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium.

Popoola said preparations for the championship were complete and expressed confidence that the new equipment would provide additional motivation for athletes participating in the inaugural event.

“We are not in any way taking chances with the MOB Championship because the sponsor is someone who wants perfection in all areas, and that is why we are trying to stage an event that is in conformity with global standards,” Popoola said.

“New equipment to be used are ready and all the athletes will also be happy to be part of this.”

The championship is sponsored by Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, a former Lagos State Commissioner for Sports and Commissioner for Information and Strategy.

The tournament is expected to form part of the NTF’s preparations for future international competitions, including the African Games and Olympic Games.

According to the organisers, athletes from all states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory are expected to participate, alongside clubs from across the country.

Paramilitary organisations have also indicated their intention to compete in the championship.

Popoola said the federation was determined to deliver a competition that would meet international standards.

“We are all set to stage a world-class taekwondo event right here in Nigeria,” she added.

The championship will run from 18 to 19 September at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium.
