NVBF Sends 12 Coaches To Ghana For FIVB Certification Programme

The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has selected 12 coaches to represent the country at the FIVB Level I Coaching Certification Course scheduled to take place in Accra, Ghana, from 3 to 8 August.

According to a statement signed by the Chairman of the NVBF Media and Publicity Committee, Godspower Odedede, the Nigerian delegation comprises national team players, former internationals and coaches from various league clubs across the country.

The 12-member contingent includes seven women and five men, a move the federation said reflects its commitment to developing a new generation of technically skilled coaches while increasing female participation in volleyball coaching.

The federation noted that the number of qualified female volleyball coaches in Nigeria remains relatively low, adding that the certification programme forms part of its strategy to bridge the gap, empower women in coaching and strengthen the country’s technical capacity for long-term volleyball development.

Dorothy Egbum will lead the delegation, alongside Francisca Ikhiede, Lydia Ayisa Yakubu, Anthony Damilola Taiwo, Monday Dada, Friday Peter, Morris Sefeiya Dikyai, Hajara Audu, Bose Melaiye, Bukky Oluwatosin, Sewuese Iorkua and George Samson Malaika.

The NVBF disclosed that the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) made the final selection of the 12 participants from an initial list of 15 candidates submitted after a screening exercise conducted by the federation’s Technical Committee and Secretariat.

Congratulating the selected coaches, the federation expressed confidence that the knowledge and practical skills they will acquire during the programme would make a significant contribution to the continued growth and development of volleyball in Nigeria.

The FIVB Level I Coaching Certification Course is designed to equip emerging coaches with internationally recognised coaching knowledge and technical expertise to improve standards of the sport in their respective countries.
