Super Eagles midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has taken a major step off the pitch by getting engaged to his longtime partner, Chidera.

The former Golden Eaglets captain shared the happy news on social media, posting intimate photos from the proposal. In one image, Chidera proudly displays her new engagement ring as the couple poses together after the romantic moment.

Nwakali first rose to prominence as captain of Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets when they lifted the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile in 2015. He was also named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

That stellar performance earned him a move to English Premier League side Arsenal. However, he never broke into the first team and instead went on loan to clubs in the Netherlands, before later moving to Portugal and Spain.

He has represented Nigeria at U-17, U-20, and U-23 levels, and has also earned caps for the senior Super Eagles.

His time at English League One club Barnsley has been far from smooth. Although he joined on a three-year deal, the former Arsenal prospect has struggled with fitness and consistency. Off-field disciplinary problems have also plagued his stay.

Following a delayed return from his postseason holiday and a series of conduct issues, Nwakali was banished from the Barnsley squad and placed on the transfer list — a turbulent chapter in a career once full of promise.
