Mrs Nonye Soludo, wife of the governor of Anambra state, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has bemoaned the stripping naked of a National Youth Service Corps member by a team of operatives of the state government’s ad-hoc security operatives, “Agunaechemba”, and, tasked security agencies handling investigation into the incident to go beyond seeking justice for the victims, to ensure that such humiliation does not happen again.
In a statement she issued on the assault on the NYSC member, Ms Jennifer Edema Elobor by the Agunaechemba operatives in Oba, Idemili-South local government area of the state, which the video footage made viral on social media, the Anambra state First Lady insisted that there was no justification for assaulting the female NYSC member in the manner the state security operatives in that manner.
She said, “I have seen the viral video of the unfortunate incident reported in Oba involving members of the Agunechemba security outfit and a female corps member serving in Anambra State.
“There is no justification for such a demeaning and humiliating abuse”
Mrs. Soludo argued that such acts did not reflect the values the state is known for, declaring that the state is reputed for being peaceful and hospitable.
She said, “This behaviour contradicts the humane philosophy of our administration. There are always rules of engagement, even in tense situations, and these must be guided by civility, respect, and the preservation of human dignity. I find the Oba incident deeply troubling,” she added.
She called on all the stakeholders pursuing justice to go beyond seeking justice and develop “critical measures not only to entrench justice, but, most importantly, to ensure that such a worrisome scene is never witnessed again in Anambra State.”
“Anambra’s image is priceless and must be protected at all costs”, she emphasised.
