A political group, Obidient Movement, in Ebonyi State has rejected moves by alleged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other political groups to hijack the opposition coalition movement in the state.
However, the group, while noting it won’t allow such a move in the state, reaffirmed its support and commitment to the Labour Party ahead of the forthcoming 2027 general election.
The Obidients declared their stand in a statement signed by the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Splendour Oko Eze and the House of Representatives candidates of the party in the state, Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh.
Eze and Ezeh are also members of the National Advisory Committee, Obidient Movement.
They called on Labour Party supporters to remain steadfast and committed to the party, adding that they won’t allow the hijacking of the coalition’s structures in Ebonyi.
The statement reads, “The Labour Party in Ebonyi state wishes to reassure our numerous supporters that we remain steadfastly aligned with the Labour Party.
“Recent claims by paid agents alleging the hijacking of our coalition’s structures in Ebonyi State are unfounded and misleading.
“These claims are propagated by individuals from the fractured and fragmented PDP in the state, known for their politics of acrimony and rancorous noise-making.
“We want to assure our supporters that the core supporters of Mr. Peter Obi are well-known and remain unperturbed by these distractions” they noted.
It would be recalled that a former Aide of the minister for Works, Senator David Umahi, Mrs. Jennifer Adibe at the weekend convened an expanded meeting of the ADC and assured of taking over power from the APC.
The meeting had in attendance some members of the opposition parties and few other politicians in the state.
