A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun West Senatorial District, Prince Olatunji Oyekunle, has called for merit and competence to guide the selection of the party’s senatorial candidate for the district ahead of the 2027 elections.

Oyekunle made the call in an open letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu, a copy of which was made available to journalists in Abuja.
In the letter, he raised concerns over the quality of representation for Ogun West in the Senate.

He stated that the district required a candidate with legislative experience, negotiation skills and the capacity to engage on national issues.
“The Senate requires trusted and tested hands, proven competence and wisdom,” he said.

The APC chieftain also expressed reservations over the emergence of Hon. Jimoh Ojugbele as the party’s senatorial candidate, arguing that the district should be represented by someone with wider political exposure and experience.
According to him, “Ogun West deserves a Senator who would not shiver amongst his peers.”

He appealed for fairness, merit and equity in the party’s selection process.
Oyekunle also said the next senator representing the district should be able to build on the work of the incumbent lawmaker, Senator Olamilekan Adeola.
