Okpara Urges Osimhen To Join PSG Amid Atlético Interest

Former Nigeria international Godwin Okpara has voiced strong support for Victor Osimhen’s potential transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, insisting the striker would flourish at the Ligue 1 giants and help them maintain their stranglehold on European football.

Osimhen has emerged as one of Europe’s most coveted forwards following a stellar campaign with Galatasaray, netting 22 goals and chipping in six assists across all competitions as the Turkish side clinched the Süper Lig title.

Over two seasons at Rams Park, the 27-year-old has amassed 59 goals and 16 assists in 74 outings.

PSG, fresh from securing consecutive UEFA Champions League crowns, are keen to add a proven No. 9 to their squad, with Osimhen firmly on their radar. Okpara, who once donned the PSG jersey himself, believes the move would be a perfect fit for all involved.

“It will only make them more formidable. For Osimhen, joining PSG means returning to a league he already knows well, so adaptation won’t be an issue,” Okpara told Footy Africa.

“It’s a fantastic club for him – one that’s hungry for every trophy. They are a winning machine.”

Okpara also highlighted Osimhen’s successful stint at Lille, where he bagged 18 goals and five assists in a single season, as proof of his ability to shine in France.

“Next year, they’ll be aiming for another Champions League triumph. So why not? PSG could be the perfect platform. For Osimhen, this move would be excellent – both for him and for Nigeria as a whole,” added the 53-year-old.

Meanwhile, Atlético Madrid have joined the chase for Osimhen. Reports from Fichajes indicate the Spanish outfit have opened preliminary talks, with the Nigerian reportedly open to a La Liga adventure.

Atlético’s pursuit is fueled by uncertainty over Julián Álvarez, who has been linked with Arsenal. Barcelona had previously tracked the Argentine but backed off due to his €100 million price tag.

Galatasaray are holding out for at least €100 million for Osimhen, a figure Atlético are said to be ready to match if Álvarez departs. A move to the Spanish capital would also reunite Osimhen with Super Eagles teammate Ademola Lookman, who joined Atlético in January.

However, insiders close to Osimhen suggest he will only leave Galatasaray if the club decides to sell, having recently downplayed exit talk. Interest has also come from Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Manchester United.

Should PSG win the race, Osimhen could lead their attack in the UEFA Super Cup final against Aston Villa on August 12.
