A former presidential candidate, Mr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim yesterday enjoined Christian youths in the country to embrace integrity in order to attain leadership position.
Olawepo-Hashim gave the advice at a one-day training on political education organised for Christian Youths in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The training was organised by the state’s chapter of the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) with the theme : “Arise and Lead: Answering the Call to Serve.”
Olawepo-Hashim said good integrity will inspire consistent followership and gain public trust, adding that: ” To become a good leader, your integrity matters most. Protect your integrity and be righteous. Don’t compromise and always maintain a good name that will last for eternity. You have to be accountable to the people you lead and also you will be accountable to God.”
He urged youths to emulate the likes of the late Obafemi Awolowo, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Solomon Lar and others who once led the country in various capacities without compromising their integrity.
He also advised Christian youths to study like Daniel and not be ignorant of leadership roles.
He cited Daniel as an example of Christian who served unbelievers but never compromises his standard.
“They always came to Daniel because he has the wisdom. If you have the wisdom, they will come for you and tap from your bundle of knowledge ,” he said.
The YOWICAN chairman, Evang. Stephen Adeola- Awoyale said the programme was organised purposely to challenge Christian youths in the country to be involved in politics.
“We are calling Christian youths into action. It is time for them to partake in politics and stop being apathetic,” he said.
