Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has singled out Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams as Nigeria’s standout performers in European football this season.
Speaking on his programme Global Football Insights With Oliseh, the former international praised the trio’s attacking prowess and consistency in front of goal, describing them as the “fuel” powering Nigeria’s footballing reputation abroad.
Osimhen has been particularly prolific, scoring 19 goals across all competitions for Galatasaray, while Adams has netted 7 goals for Sevilla. Lookman has also impressed with six goals for Atlético Madrid.
Oliseh highlighted their collective impact on European defences, noting that their performances have been a joy to watch. However, he cautioned that individual brilliance alone cannot compensate for systemic shortcomings within the national team.
Despite boasting attacking talent, Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, although the Super Eagles secured a respectable third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
“Even the best fuel is useless if the engine is broken,” Oliseh remarked, underlining the need for structural improvements within Nigerian football to complement the players’ individual success.
