Ogun State House of Assembly has re-elected Hon. Olakunle Taiwo Oluomo as the Sspeaker of the 10th Assembly.
Oluomo’s emergence came on the heels of several hours of consultations and disagreement which nearly resulted in security breaches among the lawmakers elected on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), the political party which produced the Speaker himself.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the intrigues that came to play during the plenary session for the election of principal officers arose because of the preference of some lawmakers, particularly the nine opposition lawmakers elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for another second timer, Hon. Oludaisi Elemide from the Odeda State Constituency as against returning Oluomo who still has a pending court matter with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, was, however, absent at the inauguration held at the Assembly’s Chamber located within the State Secretariat Complex in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
After about four hours of intermittent breaks attributed to the noticeable security threat, the clerk of the Assembly, Deji Adeyemo, thereafter brought the Assembly to order, while calling for nomination for the election to the offices of the speaker and deputy speaker.
Hon. Lamidi Musefiu from Ado-Odo Ota State Constituency II, later nominated the immediate past speaker, Hon. Oluomo who is representing Ifo II State Constituency and was seconded by Hon. Ifedolapo Owode, representing Ijebu East State Constituency.
In the same vein, Hon. Bolanle Ajayi, representing Yewa South State Constituency also emerged as the deputy speaker.
The emergence of the duo was shortly after the clerk and head of legislative service, Deji Adeyemo, read the governor’s proclamation of the 10th Assembly at the session held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Oluomo after his nomination and election assured that he would run the affairs of the House with fairness, equity and justice for the benefit of the state.
