Oshiomhole Honoured As Okpekpe Race Ambassador

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole will be formally invested as the Race Ambassador for the prestigious World Athletics Gold Label Okpekpe International 10km Road Race on Saturday in a ceremony rich with symbolism and pride.

The investiture dinner will take place just hours after the 11th edition of the race commences in Okpekpe, Edo North.

While his ambassadorial role was announced weeks ago, Saturday’s event serves as the crowning honour, celebrating the man whose vision and leadership were instrumental in bringing the race to fruition. As Governor of Edo State, Oshiomhole’s construction of roads linking Okpekpe to Auchi transformed the previously remote area into a global athletics hub, enabling Nigeria to host its inaugural World Athletics Label 10km road race in 2015.

Oshiomhole has consistently participated in the race, embodying its spirit as Governor, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and now as Senator for Edo North. His investiture as Race Ambassador acknowledges his enduring role as a bridge between athletics and development, recognising his commitment to endurance, unity, and progress. The Okpekpe race has become a beacon of excellence in African athletics, and honouring its founder is a fitting and inspiring tribute.
