Victor Osimhen has declared himself fully fit and ready to lead the line for Galatasaray in their highly anticipated showdown against Juventus.
The Nigerian superstar was forced to sit out Galatasaray’s disappointing 2-0 loss to Konyaspor last weekend after picking up a minor knee injury. However, with the visit of the Italian giants looming, Osimhen has confirmed he is back in contention.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, the striker eased any fears among the Galatasaray faithful, assuring them that the issue is firmly behind him.
“My knee is fine, thank you. I have a little pain in my knee, that is the reason why I didn’t play the last league game, but thanks to the medical team, I am back with the squad and looking forward to facing Juve,” Osimhen said.
While his absence was keenly felt at the weekend, Osimhen was quick to deflect praise onto his teammates and dismiss the idea that Galatasaray is a one-man team.
“It’s a huge responsibility, but it’s not just about Osimhen. I have to give props to the rest of the squad, as they’ve been really helpful putting this club where it should be,” he stated.
“This club is huge… We also have the opportunity to write history for the club, so it’s not just about one player.”
Osimhen was a tormentor-in-chief for the Juventus defence in the first leg, not just with his attacking threat but with his relentless work rate off the ball. He explained that this disruptive approach is a core part of his game.
“One thing about me is if I’m not seeing an opportunity to score, I am trying to help my team. Juventus always start from the back, so it was important to press them,” Osimhen explained.
“Defence starts from the attack, so me and the other forwards have to start the press. It was just the right thing to do, and of course the instructions from the coach. I did my duty and I’m glad I did it diligently.”
With his eyes firmly set on the prize, Osimhen and Galatasaray will be hoping to harness that same energy to secure a historic result against the Bianconeri.
