Victor Osimhen endured a frustrating night as Galatasaray suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Barcelona in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League league-phase encounter.
The Nigerian striker’s side took the lead through Rafael Leão in the 28th minute, but Barcelona fought back to score four goals and secure an emphatic victory.
Galatasaray appeared to have made a promising start when Leão found the net, giving the Turkish side hope of claiming a significant result against the Spanish giants.
However, Barcelona responded six minutes later when João Cancelo equalised in the 43rd minute, converting Dani Olmo’s assist to send both teams into the half-time break at 1-1.
Barcelona took control after the restart, with Fermín López putting the visitors ahead in the 50th minute after being set up by Lamine Yamal.
Yamal turned provider again three minutes later, assisting Anthony Gordon to extend Barcelona’s lead to 3-1 and leave Galatasaray facing an uphill battle.
The visitors completed the rout in the 65th minute when Karim Adeyemi scored from Gabriel Jesus’s pass to make it 4-1.
Despite their early advantage, Galatasaray struggled to contain Barcelona’s attacking threat after the interval, conceding three goals in 15 minutes.
Osimhen, who was expected to spearhead the Turkish club’s attack, failed to get on the scoresheet as Barcelona demonstrated their superiority in the second half.
The defeat represents a setback for Galatasaray’s Champions League campaign, while Barcelona will take confidence from their impressive away performance as they pursue progress in the competition.
