Osimhen ‘Threatens Super Eagles Exit’ After Heated On-field Clash With Lookman

Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen, was reportedly on the verge of walking away from national team’s camp in Morocco following a tense and emotional episode during Nigeria’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

According to reports by ARISE News Channel, the incident stemmed from an on-field disagreement between Osimhen and fellow striker Ademola Lookman, which occurred in the second half of the encounter. Despite enjoying a highly productive outing—netting two goals, both of which were set up by Lookman—the Napoli striker became visibly frustrated in the 64th minute after his teammate opted against passing the ball to him in a promising attacking move.

Osimhen’s reaction was immediate and intense, as he openly vented his anger at Lookman in full view of teammates, officials, and spectators. The striker was later seen gesturing repeatedly towards the Super Eagles’ bench, signalling his desire to be substituted, a move that appeared to reflect his growing frustration rather than any injury concern.

Head coach eventually withdrew Osimhen from the match, replacing him with Moses Simon as Nigeria comfortably saw out the game to secure all three points.

However, the situation reportedly escalated after the final whistle. Osimhen is said to have stormed out of the stadium in a visibly agitated state, dropping his accreditation card in the process. Witnesses claimed the striker repeatedly declared that he was “done” with the national team and expressed a desire to immediately return to Turkey, where he is currently on loan with Galatasaray.

The dramatic exit sparked concern among team officials, given Osimhen’s status as one of Nigeria’s most important players and a key figure in the Super Eagles’ AFCON campaign.
