Osun State government has called on the former governor of Osun State and minister of marine and blue economy, Alhaji Adegboye Oyetola, to apologise to the people of Osun State for the chaos his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) inflicted on the people of the state over the lingering local government crisis.
It said the apology became imperative because of the unprovoked and unnecessary political crisis over intentional distortion of fact on court verdicts on the election into the local government councils across Osun State held on the 15th of October, 2022, on local government administration that led to the loss of many lives and properties in the state.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo after the verdict of the Court of Appeal delivered earlier in the day in Akure, the state commissioner for information and public enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, said the court reaffirmed that the local government election conducted by Osun State Independent Electoral Commission( OSSIEC) in 2022 under the administration Oyetola was unconstitutional, null and void.
According to him, in the judgement delivered yesterday, the Court of Appeal stated that the dismissal of Appeal No FHC/ OS/CS/94/2022 on Jan.13, 2025 showed that the judgement of the Federal High Court in suit No FHC/OS/CS//94/2022 which sacked the 2022 local government chairmen and councilors still subsists and was binding on all those chairmen and councilors.
He said, “The court made it clear that the APC which happens to be the appellant failed to meet the conditions upon which the appeal could be revisited.
“The court did not spare the counsel of APC, Mr Muideen Adeoye because it lambasted him for being untruthful about the facts before the court.
“The court went further to state that the fate that befell the APC Yes/No Chairmen is self -inflicted”.
