The Osun State Government has called on security agencies to launch an immediate investigation following a reported assassination attempt on Nigerian singer Adebayo Adeleke, popularly known as B-Red, in Osogbo.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon near the Oke-Fia area of the state capital. According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the singer, who is the son of Governor Ademola Adeleke, was pursued by a white Toyota Venza and several motorcycles while on a personal errand.
B-Red reported that his vehicle was intercepted near the Alekuwodo market by individuals he identified as political thugs. He alleged that the occupants of the pursuing vehicle attempted to block his path while shouting identifying markers, forcing him to make a high-speed dash toward the Government House for safety.
The singer specifically identified a prominent local political enforcer as being among the group leading the chase. Security personnel at the Government House entrance eventually intervened to provide protection and disperse the pursuers.
“The state government views this brazen attack on a citizen as a threat to the peace of Osun,” the statement read. “We have urged the police to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure that those involved, regardless of their political affiliations, are apprehended and prosecuted.”
