Osun Govt Harps On Importance Of Girl Child Education

Osun State government has stressed the importance of girl child education in nation building.

The permanent secretary, Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment, Barr. Abimbola Babatunde who stated this in an advocacy campaign for girl child education and Water Sanitation in Ifedayo, Olaluwa and Atakumosa local government areas of Osun State, described girl child education as sacrosanct.

Tagged: ‘Nigeria For Women Project’, a programme sponsored by the World Bank in collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria, seeks to ensure that the Girl child is properly educated.

The programme which has four thematic areas including: Health, Environment, Agriculture and Education, also advocates proper handling of water and overall personal hygiene.

In her advocacy in the three local government areas, Babatunde expressed the commitment of Governor Ademola Adeleke to Girl Child Education saying that any society that wants it good in the future must make the education of the female gender paramount.

She maintained that the best way to educate the larger society for an all-  round development is by educating the girl child, stressing that the female child is like the anchor to societal growth and economic prosperity.

The Permanent Secretary also used the media tour to sensitise members of the public on the need to handle water properly to avoid water borne diseases.

The programme had earlier taken the Ministry of Information to markets in Ifedayo, Olaoluwa and Atakumosa LGAs, where market women were enlightened on the many advantages of educating the girl child and the need to handle water properly.
