The governor of Abia state, Alex Otti has promised automatic job opportunities for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who distinguish themselves in the state.
Otti announced this during the swearing-in of 1,820 members of the 2026 Batch A, Stream 1, deployed to the state, which took place at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Umunna.
The governor cited the current Head of Service of the state, Benson Ojeikere, an indigene of Edo State, who excelled during his NYSC service year, as an example.
He affirmed that such opportunities still exist for corps members who demonstrate excellence and dedication.
Governor Otti also stated several human capital development programmes initiated by his administration in areas such as ICT, entrepreneurship and agriculture, among others, urging the corps members to take full advantage of these opportunities.
He said; “Our eyes shall be on you in the places where you will be posted. I encourage you to work diligently and leave a lasting impression on the minds and hearts of the people you will encounter.”
He further announced plans by his administration to commence the second phase of rehabilitation work at the orientation camp.
The projects, he said, would include the rehabilitation of roads, the perimeter fence, the pavilion and the parade ground, among others.
Earlier in her address, the State NYSC Coordinator, Gladys Adama, disclosed that out of the 1,820 corps members sworn in, 804 are males while 1,016 are females.
She stressed the importance of discipline and strict compliance with camp rules.
Adama congratulated the corps members on their successful swearing-in and appreciated the governor and the state government for their contributions to the development and improvement of the orientation camp.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development and Chairman of the State NYSC Governing Board, Nwaobilor Ananaba, congratulated the corps members and advised them to take the orientation course seriously.
