The elder brother of late gospel singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, has defended their father against allegations that he was not present in the singer’s life while growing up.
Olayemi Abdulazeez addressed the claims during an interview with BBC Yoruba, published on November 4, 2026, where he dismissed reports suggesting their father abandoned his children.
He explained that although Toluwanisings lost his mother at a young age and was raised by his maternal relatives in Lagos, their father remained involved in their lives and did everything he could to support his children.
Abdulazeez maintained that their father never abandoned any of them despite the circumstances surrounding their upbringing.
“Our father cared for us and did everything within his power for each of us, while we continuously pray for him that we, the children, may do even greater things for him than he did for us,” he said.
He also recalled how their father supported Toluwanisings when he decided to get married, providing details that contradicted claims about his absence from the singer’s life.
According to Abdulazeez, he personally contacted their father when the late singer announced his intention to marry. The family subsequently came together, and their father purchased all the necessary items for the bride price.
He added that the items were transported to Lagos ahead of the wedding, noting that their father went beyond expectations in supporting the occasion.
“When Toluwanisings wanted to get married, he called our father and me and all the family. Our father bought all materials for the bride price, and then we took it from here to Lagos. He did that and even more at the wedding,” Abdulazeez stated.
His comments come amid the family disagreement that followed Toluwanisings’ death, particularly the dispute between his father and widow over the appropriate burial arrangements.
The disagreement reportedly escalated to the point where the Oyo State Police Command intervened to settle the matter.
Both parties eventually signed a peace agreement at the police station, temporarily bringing the dispute to an end.
