Ekiti State governor, Biodun Oyebanji was on Friday named New Telegraph Governor of the Year for providing transformative leadership, good governance and grassroots development in the state.
The management of the tabloid which organised the event explained that the awardees were selected individuals and organisations that had been making remarkable social and economic impact in Nigeria.
The prestigious award was presented at the annual New Telegraph award ceremony, held on Friday, 21 February 2024 held in Lagos.
The chairman of New Telegraph Newspaper, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu accompanied by the chairman of the event, Chief Olabode George, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, and the managing director, Mr Aminu Ayodele presented the award.
Oyebanji has been hailed for keeping Ekiti State on the right track of sustainable socioeconomic growth and development.
He is widely judged to have done well in education, agriculture, health and infrastructure and have brought a new lease of life to the citizens.
Also present at the event were the minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo; group chief executive officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, Mele Kyari while Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu was represented by the secretary to the state government, Barrister Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, amongst others.
In his address, the Editor-in-chief and managing director of New Telegraph Newspaper, Mr Ayodele Aminu, applauded various awardees selected for the New Telegraph 2024 awards.
Aminu emphasised the significance of recognising exceptional personalities across various spheres of life, stating that “awards are motivational tools that spur morals.”
He pointed out that New Telegraph Newspaper is renowned for its excellence in journalism and has received numerous awards for its commitment to delivering high-quality content and exceptional reporting.
According to him, this year’s award ceremony aimed to galvanise awardees to continue striving for excellence and inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.
