Paris 2024: Gift Monday Targets Podium Finish With Super Falcons

Super Falcons striker, Gift Monday is determined to help the team to a podium finish at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The West Africans defeated Banyana Banyana of South Africa 1-0 on aggregate to seal a place at Paris 2024.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP on her ambitions for the upcoming Olympics, Monday expressed confidence in her team’s abilities while acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead.

She said, “The team is united, resilient and determined. If we build on our performance at the last World Cup in Australia, we can win a medal for Nigeria.

“We are in a tough group and I know it won’t be easy, our main objective is to qualify from the group, once we achieve that, anything is possible.

“We will take each game as it comes and hopefully we will get to the medal winning stages.”

The Super Falcons of Nigeria will start their campaign at the 2024 Olympic Games against Brazil on Thursday, July 25.

The Group C encounter will hold at the Stade Matmut- Atlantique, Bordeaux. Kick-off is 6pm Nigeria time.

The nine-time African champions will come up against world champions, Spain in their second group game at the Stade de la Beujoire, Nantes on Saturday, July 28.

The encounter will also start at 6pm Nigeria time.

Randy Waldrum’s side will round up their group stage campaign against Japan three days later also at the Stade de la Beujoire. Kick-off is 4pm.

The Super Falcons are making a return to the Olympics after a 16-year absence.
