Both teams’ fans were anxiously waiting for the epic battle, when African defending champions battle seven-times Olympics champions for a place in the semifinals later this Wednesday at the Bercy Arena at the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics.

Nigeria had defeated Australia and Canada and lost to host France to book their quarterfinal ticket, while USA humbled Japan, Belgium and Germany, respectively.

While speaking to LEADERSHIP Sports exclusively at the Games Village in Paris ahead of the titanic battle, the former D’Tigress captain Mohammed said the team was in high spirit to do the nation proud.

“By his grace, we are going to beat USA, that’s our main purpose of going to play the game, we want to shock the world and that is what we are going to do,” she stated.

In their lone previous meeting in the Summer Games, Team USA defeated Nigeria by nine points in the group stage at Tokyo in 2020.
