Team Nigeria’s Rafiatu Folashade Lawal missed out on a medal at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympic Games after finishing fifth in the Women’s 59kg Weightlifting event on Thursday.

Lawal achieved a 100kg in the Snatch & 130kg in the Clean & Jerk for a total of 230kg. The tally was 5kg short of Bronze Medallist Kuo Hsing-chun of Chinese Taipei.

Her defeat meant that Team Nigeria’s hunt for its first medal at the Paris Games continued and hoped for better luck later as the trio of Ese Brume, Ruth Usoro and Prestina Ochonogor will compete in the women’s long jump final this Thursday night.
