The Benue State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the recent abduction of nine worshippers during a night vigil at St. John’s Catholic Church, Ojije, Utonkon District of Ado local government area.

In a statement issued by the PDP publicity secretary, Tim Nyor, yesterday, the party demanded sustained and reinforced security presence in Ado LGA and other vulnerable rural communities.

It so called for a clearly articulated, intelligence-led security strategy focused on prevention rather, “than post-incident reaction.”

The party further demanded full collaboration between federal and state security agencies to dismantle and neutralise criminal networks operating in the state.

“We are particularly distressed that the victims are reported to be women and youths – the most vulnerable members of our communities. This tragedy underscores the ruthless boldness of criminal elements who now operate with alarming impunity.”

The statement added, “While we acknowledge reports of the deployment of a tactical police team, we must state clearly that reactive deployments after attacks have occurred are no substitute for proactive, intelligence-driven security.

Benue communities, especially rural settlements, have endured a relentless cycle of abductions, killings, and displacement. The pattern is unmistakable. The fear is constant. The people are weary.

“Security is not an act of charity; it is the foremost constitutional obligation of government. Our people cannot continue to live at the mercy of criminals while receiving routine assurances after each tragic incident. It is unacceptable that communities must perpetually mourn before action is taken” the party said.
