Former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has raised alarm over the deepening crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that the party risks a dismal fourth-place finish in the 2027 general elections if urgent reforms are not implemented.

Fayose made the startling prediction during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, where he openly criticised the party’s leadership and internal divisions.

“PDP will come fourth in the next general elections. A lot is wrong with our party, and that is the naked truth. It is unfortunate. I was duly invited to the NEC meeting, but my absence speaks volumes,” he said.

The PDP has been embroiled in several layers of crisis within its leadership ranks.

The former governor’s statement came amid escalating tensions within the PDP which has seen key figures, including former vice president Atiku Abubakar and former senate president David Mark defect to the opposition coalition aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

When questioned on possible solutions, Fayose remained cautious but emphasised the need for urgent reconciliation.

“The truth hurts, but unless we face it, PDP may not recover,” he said.
