The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has called on the federal government to fulfil its constitutional and moral responsibility of protecting all citizens irrespective of tribe or religion amid rising insecurity across the country.

The National President of PFN, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, made the call in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Sunday after a three-day prayer and fasting programme for the nation.

He said the primary responsibility of government was the protection of lives and property, warning that Nigeria risks becoming a nation where injustice and oppression thrive if urgent action is not taken.

“We urge our government to seek help and partnership from the international community before it is too late,” Wale-Oke said.

He also called on Christians across the country to unite in prayer and speak with one voice against what he described as worsening insecurity.

“We cry out in repentance and prayer, calling on the God of heaven to intervene in the affairs of our nation… so that governments at all levels can feel our pain and move decisively to stop this evil and defend our faith and our churches,” he said.

Wale-Oke said the country was increasingly losing value for human life, adding that insecurity had reached “intolerable” levels across several regions.

He referenced long-standing cases of kidnapped victims, including the Chibok schoolgirls and Leah Sharibu, while also citing past incidents of violence such as the killing of Deborah Samuel in Sokoto.

He further listed ongoing attacks in parts of Plateau, Benue, Southern Kaduna, Kwara, Kogi, Ondo, Borno, Niger and Sokoto states, describing many rural communities as “killing fields.”

The cleric also alleged that Oyo State had recently experienced attacks resulting in abductions and killings, including the beheading of a teacher, Mr Michael Oyedokun, and the killing of another.

He criticised what he described as a lack of strong political will to end insecurity, lamenting that attention was being diverted toward politics rather than security.

“Nigerians are sick and tired of this evil and the apparent misplaced focus on winning elections by all means rather than focusing the full weight of our law and federal might to crush the killers of Nigerians,” he said.

Wale-Oke also condemned the practice of rehabilitating repentant insurgents, arguing that it undermines national security efforts.

He said insecurity was not only destroying lives but also weakening national unity, discouraging investment and driving skilled citizens out of the country.

The PFN president said the organisation’s National Executive Council met on May 19, 2026, and resolved to intensify prayers, fasting and advocacy against insecurity.

“We have fasted. We have prayed. Now we speak,” he said.

He prayed for divine intervention, saying, “May God in His mercy heal our land and restore peace to Nigeria.”
