Troops of 3 Division/Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) while conducting offensive operations on Wednesday, July 3 at the mountainous areas of Tulus and Hokk Communities in Bokkos LGA along the fringes of Plateau and Nasarawa States, have neutralised one bandit while others fled into the surrounding bushes.
OPSH, in a statement issued by its Media Information Officer, Major Samson Zhakom, said the troops exploited the area but no further contact was made with the criminals and are currently dominating the general area with mobile and static patrols to deny the fleeing criminals freedom of action.
He also said that, “At about 5:45pm on the same day, based on credible intelligence on the movement of arms and ammunition by gunrunners in the Joa, troops mounted snap checkpoints along suspected routes of the criminals at Mangar in Daffo District in Bokkos LGA.
“During the operation, troops intercepted a gunrunner while conveying concealed arms and ammunition on a motorcycle. A thorough search on the arrested suspect led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, 3 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition, one motorcycle, 2 Tecno mobile phones, one clothing material and cash sum of Four Hundred Naira (N400.00).”
According to him, the arrested suspect and recovered items were in custody while efforts were ongoing to track and arrest other members of the criminal syndicate.
He maintained that the significant operational successes were part of the troops’ resolve to block every avenue at which criminal activities are committed within the Joint Operations Area, particularly the use of illegal and unauthorised weapons to attack innocent civilians.
