The Plateau State governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has pledged to work closely with the State Assembly.
He stated this when the House of Assembly presented their newly elected Speaker, Rt. Hon. Daniel Na’anlong, to the Governor of the State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, for his blessing and official recognition.
The 24-member delegation, led by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Madaki Isa Ajiji, visited the governor at his residence. Rt. Hon. Na’anlong was unanimously elected by his colleagues following the voluntary resignation of the former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan.
Speaking on behalf of the legislators, the Deputy Speaker informed the governor that the election of the new speaker was conducted in a peaceful and rancour-free manner, reflecting the maturity and commitment of the lawmakers to the stability and progress of the state.
Governor Mutfwang, in his remarks, expressed profound appreciation to the members of the Assembly for the peaceful transition and their demonstration of unity and statesmanship.
He assured them of his continued cooperation and a harmonious working relationship in the interest of Plateau’s peace, unity, and development.
“Today is a day of joy for the people of Plateau State,” the governor declared.
He thanked Dewan for his selfless service and leadership over the past year, saying he proved himself as a Plateau son and a man who understands that power belongs to God.
The governor further described the current Assembly as a body of highly experienced legislators capable of steering the affairs of the House with wisdom and integrity.
He congratulated Rt. Hon. Daniel Nanlong on his emergence and charged him to be a symbol of fairness, justice and humility.
“You have all it takes to lead,” the Governor said, adding “But I urge you to carry everyone along. Every member has the capacity to lead, so ensure inclusivity, fairness, and mutual respect as you discharge your responsibilities.”
Mutfwang reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the legislature to advance the development agenda of the state, emphasising that only a united front can deliver meaningful dividends of democracy to the people.
In his response, Rt. Hon. Daniel Nanlong thanked the Governor for providing an enabling environment for the lawmakers to operate without interference or intimidation.
The Speaker pledged to lead the House with the fear of God and a deep sense of responsibility.
“I will provide a leadership built on compassion, equity, and collective progress,” the speaker stated.
