Inspector Tanko was hit by a bullet and died on the spot while on a special duty in the State.

LEADERSHIP recalls that a Joint Task Force comprising personnel of the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Operation Rainbow saddled with the responsibility of ensuring sanity in the Jos Terminus Market area were resisted by a mob while conducting a clearance operation.

A statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo said after all efforts by the team to bring the situation under control proved abortive, an officer from one of the sister agencies fired a warning shot which unfortunately hit the Inspector and he died on the spot.

The statement also noted that in a bid to restore normalcy to the State, the State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina visited the scene to assess the situation.

He further urged members of the public to always cooperate with the security agencies in the execution of their lawful duties, stating that the laws the officers were enforcing are for the general good of the citizens.

The CP also hinted the general public that the Plateau State Police Command under his watch will not relent in its efforts to train and retrain its officers to ensure professionalism.
