Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command have arrested six students in connection with a conflict that led to the death of a student of the Federal University Dut-sinma.

The state police public relations officer, Sadiq Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement he issued, but dismissed the report on social media that the 200-level computer science student died “over the religious issue.”

He said, “On September 28, 2023, at about 1320 hours, a tragic incident occurred at Darawa Quarters, Dut-sinma LGA, Katsina State, involving eight students of the Federal University Dut-sinma.

“The incident was the result of a heated altercation between the students over a relationship with a fellow female student, which escalated tragically, leading to the death of one of the students involved.

“The command takes this matter very seriously and is currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the facts surrounding the incident, as six of the students in connection with the incident have been arrested.”

Aliyu affirmed that the command is working diligently to gather and analyse all available evidence, including eyewitness testimonies, with the view of establishing  comprehensive understanding of what transpired, and assured that the police would uphold the principles of justice and fairness.

He also urged any individual with relevant information about the incident that will assist the investigation to step forward, as all information received will be treated with confidentiality.
